To round off the first year nicely, my close friends, Rebecca Griffiths, Sally Dod, Peter Hempshall, and myself got together and put on our first group show.
We took up the carpet and painted the walls of the living room in Rebecca's student house, hired lights and stashed furniture into any available part of the house.
The show consisted of our favourite pieces of work from our first year dabblings at Falmouth. There were drawings and sculpture by Rebecca, paintings and sculpture by Sally, prints by Peter and my own sculpture and prints.
The work I chose for the show combined the products of my earlier trials in casting, using packaging materials and plaster, with my later investigations into functionality, using furniture. The prints I made were from photographs of sculptures I had built in the studio. The sculptures themselves were created by stacking various items of furniture together, or adding components to them, in a way that reduced the functionality of each item but created a sculpture that could be seen as a new functional object.
Rebecca and Sally also contributed to the 'fleet' exhibition in 2008.
