'Susperion' - Projection Booth
Transpositions, The Brewhouse, Royal William Yard, Plymouth
04/03/11 - 08/03/11

Projection Booth buiilt in collaboration with Neil Rose as part of the MA Entrepreneurship for Creative Practice interim show 'Transpositions.'

“Colour Film: A 98 minute interpolation of Dario Argento’s 1977 film ‘Suspiria’ ”, A film by Neil Rose, 2011.
Each lighting, colour change, cut, or significant camera movement has been extracted and then replicated by hand in 698 individual frames,
these have then been re-sequenced along with the original subtitle text.
The film also includes a completely reconstructed (from original sound track recordings) music score and scant and infrequent descriptions
of key onscreen events. This ‘visually reduced’ version of the original film Suspiria, has been produced with the intention of it being used as
one part of a set of ‘educational tools’, to be used to promote and stimulate discussion around ‘different’ ways of viewing existing film works.

The tool set offers a series of digital applications that encourage viewers to approach the act of watching differently, enabling them to get beyond filmic conventions such as narrative or direction etc. It is hoped that through the process of viewing this interpolation of Suspiria, the viewer will gain a deeper understanding of the original film, as well as form an acquaintance with the new film. The project also seeks to promote and highlight ‘lost’ or forgotten film works (and film genres); and above all, wishes to ‘gift’ the viewer with a new way to ‘know’ film differently.
