Print By Numbers 'U:1 Unlocked' Event; timber, ply-wood, clothes pegs, nylon cord, paper, paint, foam printing stamps, false flowers, A self-service print workshop where I provided paint, stamps and special numbered outline sheets, so that guests may produce a print, based on a still life of some fake sunflowers that resembled Van Gough's famous Sunflower paintings. The simple technique and novel concept proved to be an accessible and enjoyable combintaion. U:1 events are usually very family friendly and at this event people of all age ranges really engaged with the tactile and colourfulI activity. I collected over 70 prints from the evening. Many people were happy sticking to the guidelines set and were intnet on producing 'the perfect print'. A few people rebelled against the constraints of the process and created their own unique images, a few created excellent liknesses of Van Gough's still life series. The original intention for these prints was to use them in my Co.lab exhibition by feeding them into a 'Shredder Piece' installation that I have been developing. The concept being that the partipants of Co.lab would activate a mechanism which would destroy and scatter the artworks people had created. Unfortunately the event and my attempts to collect more sunflower images, through chain mail and drop- offs in colleges, failed to accumulate a volume of material substantial enough to use. I wil however, use the prints in a future art work.
