(To go with) To Go with the Comet, 2011
MDF, Glue, Paint
25 x 30 x 25 cm (h x w x d)
(To go with) To Go with the Comet, 2011, is a chance product of my role as gallery technician at Plymouth College of Art.
Discarded build items from BAS 7, these interlocking rectangular forms were built to disguise technical equipment
used for Edgar Schmitz’ audio visual installation, To Go with the Comet, in its embodiment at Plymouth College of Art.
Newly appropriated as an artwork, the unfinished speaker covers are slotted together solely by aligning the holes and
notches each cover has been built with to fulfill their original purpose.
This incidental and opportunistic new art work compensates for time lost and brings into focus what is usually a
‘behind the scenes’ or insignificant element of gallery installation.
Exhibited as part of the HEIST exhibition, The Guildhall Shopping Centre, Exeter. 22-28 October 2011
